Lenten Reflections: the Feast of the Sheaf of First Fruits

Over the centuries, Gentile believers in the Jewish Messiah have almost completely disconnected themselves from Jesus’s Jewish background. Thinking God had started a new religion when he sent his son to be born in human flesh, we decided the celebrations around his death and resurrection had to be renamed and readjusted. We created a holiday called Good Friday, though Jesus died on the already existing Feast of Passover. And we call the day of his resurrection Easter, even though he rose on the Feast of the Sheaf of First Fruits.
God himself instituted seven feasts to meet with his people in celebration. By seeking to understand them better, we’ll discover many more ways Jesus fulfilled (and has yet to fulfill) the scriptures. What we know as Good Friday was timed to fall on the Feast of Passover. And there’s really no need to name Jesus’s resurrection day Easter, because it happened on the already appointed Feast of the Sheaf of First Fruits.
