Polishing the Plotline: A Writer’s Workshop

Writers! Meet me August 7–9 on the shores of beautiful Mackey Lake, in Soldotna, Alaska. Artzy Junkin is sponsoring “Polishing the Plotline: A Writer’s Workshop” that will help you develop skills in writing, editing, and platform. Bring your Work-in-Progress for personalized help and feedback. Whether you’re into fiction or non-fiction, explore which publishing options fit both you and your target audience and gain the confidence to take your next step.

Registration is $325 for the weekend. (Three meals provided.)

Sessions will include:

Plotting Your Path

You won’t get very far as a writer without knowing who you’re writing for. Who do you want to reach? What do they read and how do they best take in information? This session will help you go from a shotgun writer to a sharpshooter by narrowing your writing plan’s focus to specific target audiences and the publishing forms that reach them.

Plotting Your Work (Hooks, Lines, and No Sinkers)

Hook your reader’s attention, then reel them in. Learn how to create snappy beginnings, strong middles, and satisfying endings. Then practice what you learn with your own work-in-progress in this hands-on session.

Plotting Your Platform (The Long, Short, and Wherever of It)

Your work isn’t done until someone reads what you’ve written. Knowing yourself and your audience will help you develop a plan to connect with readers in your target audience. In this session, you’ll learn how to find opportunities that work for you as you develop a growing platform. You’ll also learn what you need to know before you publish—the rights you offer, the wrongs you don’t want to do, and the types of publishing options available.

Plotting Your Edits (The Large and the Small of It)

Seasoned or not, all writers must submit their work to the dreaded red pen. But not all edits are alike. In this session, you’ll learn how to attack your edits from big picture to small, and learn where to find editorial help at each level.

Nosh and Network

You’ll have lots of time to get to know each other and schmooze with your instructors. Meals are provided for Friday evening’s meet and greet, and Saturday for lunch and dinner.

Spaces are limited, so text Sue at 907.398.9162 to save a spot or get more information.
